The Land of Smirk

About the Comic

The Land of Smirk was my first attempt at creating (and sustaining) a webcomic. It was a weird time, full of excitement and the threat of possibility.

I had newly discovered the mediums of absurdity and abductive thinking--although, perhaps, not in such formal terms yet.

Randomness was my god and I proclaimed it as much. This wasn't just thought or talk either; my devotion to this god of randomness (perhaps even as an analog of some chais deity; although, I might argue chaos was the extreme--while randomness was more the use-case) sumooned some truly bizarre events and sequences of events in my life at the time.

Obviously, with such reinforcement, where's a wide-eyed boy peering intently through the shit-tinted lenses of early web culture and humour to go. I'll tell you where: unto explorations of new bastions and frontiers of expression.

In the sense that these were created at a time of random (in the very specific sense) exploration, they could be considered to document that time in my life. Snapshots of my mind, so tp speak; or even that the whole project, as the sum of all its pieces, is the snapshot of that time in my life and moment in my cognitive process.

To really sum up all of that in a more tangible way, here's the original description of the series/project as I saw fit to describe it at the time:

"Simple random facts of life that you never ever knew before. Unless you knew. Then this would be a waste of your time. Even still, read it. You may just learn something knew. For example, reading my comic might teach what 'a waste of time' truly means. On the other hand it may also just give you the perfect definition of 'awesome!'. SO quit wasting your time reading this and go right to the comic and spend the time you'd waste reading this - there!"

About Me

I'm not really sure what to say about me, so I'm just going to point you to random links you can find me at across the interwebz:
